ITR filing: Charged late fee due to I-T website glitch? Tax department to refund

A number of taxpayers who filed their money tax return (ITR) for FY2020-21 just after 31 July were billed interest and late expenses even with the extension of the deadline. The last date for submitting ITR for the last money year has been extended until 30 September 2021, from July 31 to give taxpayers compliance relief through the pandemic.

“The owing date of submitting ITR for FY2020-21 (AY 2021-22) is 30th September 2021 (prolonged from 31st July). The Profits Tax Division has explained it will refund the extra interest and late price paid by taxpayers thanks to software error even though submitting ITR for 2020-21.

“Despite the extension, some taxpayers who filed their earnings tax returns immediately after July 31 were being falsely billed late submitting costs and desire due to the program concern.
