Sources: Chavez leaving Yankees for Mets staff

The New York Mets have agreed to employ the service of Eric Chavez as their hitting mentor, just months after he joined the crosstown New York Yankees as an assistant hitting coach, resources verified to ESPN on Thursday.

Neither crew has spoken publicly on the issue, but the transition, though unheard of, was reported to have been executed in great faith.

Chavez, who was announced as portion of Aaron Boone’s team with the Yankees on Dec. 20, now will help make up the burgeoning staff members of longtime supervisor Buck Showalter and join Mets standard manager Billy Eppler for the third time.

Chavez, a 6-time Gold Glove 3rd baseman through a participating in job that spanned 17 several years, was hired by the Yankees as a specific assignment scout in 2015 when Eppler served as assistant GM. Cora, the more mature brother of Boston Pink Sox manager Alex Cora, was a longtime mentor for the Chicago White Sox less than previous supervisor Ozzie Guillen and expended the previous 5 years as 3rd-base coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Kirby served as Showalter’s first-base mentor with the Baltimore Orioles from 2011 to 2018 and held the identical work with the San Diego Padres about the previous two decades. initially noted that Chavez would sign up for the Mets.
