Australia cancels Novak Djokovic’s visa for the second time

Tennis star Novak Djokovic has had his visa canceled once all over again in advance of the Australian Open up as the furor more than his Covid-19 vaccination standing intensifies.

It comes just after Djokovic on Monday gained a court fight to stay in the place following his visa was initially revoked. The 34-calendar year-aged Serbian countrywide was detained in an immigration facility last week right after arriving in Melbourne ahead of the Australian Open up for what officers stated violated the country’s demanding entry policies that require visitors be vaccinated towards Covid.

Monday’s courtroom ruling meant Djokovic’s visa remained legitimate and he was unveiled from detention. But the Australian authorities has now acted the moment all over again.

“Today I exercised my energy underneath part 133C(3) of the Migration Act to terminate the visa held by Mr Novak Djokovic on overall health and superior purchase grounds, on the basis that it was in the community curiosity to do so,” Australia’s Immigration Minister Alex Hawke claimed in a statement on Friday.

Djokovic, a vocal vaccine skeptic aiming for a document-breaking 21st Grand Slam title, at first had his passport confiscated on Jan. 5 soon after customs officials made a decision he did not have sufficient health-related justification for a vaccine exemption.
